Hook up with big, hard fighting trophy King Salmon, Steelhead Trout, Lake Trout, and Brown Trout, that reach up to 40 pounds, on Lake Ontario. These fish jump, run, and fight all the way to the boat and sometimes this can take an hour’s time. A day’s catch will not fit in your cooler. Lake Ontario has the world’s best, fresh water bite! People of all ages have fun catching fish aboard The Beagle. Families, children, and corporate groups are welcome. Catch great tasting Walleye Pike on Lake Erie, the “Walleye Capital” of the world. The walleye reach 15 pounds and are caught during the months of June, July, and August from the port of Barcelona, New York on The Beagle.

The Beagle is a safe, fully inspected, insured, and equipped 27 foot dual engine cruiser that weighs 4 tons. She has all rods, reels, and tackle to insure your fun and productive day’s fishing. She also has the latest safety and fish finding electronics. There is a stand-up, enclosed bathroom, cabin, and bunk for your comfort and safety. For the physically challenged sportsperson, we have a wheel chair ramp, rod holders, and fighting belt.

The dual engines supply all the power to tame any rough seas or inclement weather. We supply all the gear, clean your catch, and provide you with instant pictures for those long lasting memories. Limit catches are possible and many trophy fish are brought aboard. The state record steelhead trout at 27 pounds, and the largest salmon, at 47 pounds, were caught from our port. Many other trophies are caught at the most productive and consistent port on Lake Ontario. We are also well versed in catch and release for those wanting to preserve the future of this fishery. Come join the fun, catch some fish, and mount that trophy for the wall.

Capt. Ron LaGamba

A native of Niagara Falls, New York, Capt. Ron has always had a life-long passion for angling. For the past 25 years, he has been successful at fishing and boating on Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, the Niagara River and flyfishing all the local streams and rivers. Capt. Ron is a professional, full time, licensed Coast Guard captain who lives with his wife and beagles in Albion, New York. He is certified by the DEC and is a fishing, hunting, and wildlife expert. Capt. Ron will work his hardest to guarantee your trip to be unforgettable. He is one of the area’s best and hard working captains!

Working with youg people and the physically challenged are among Captain Ron’s fortes. With over 20 years of fishing and outdoor experience, he is often called upon to give seminars about the outdoors to area young people and schools.

When to Come

April is the start of the fishing here. It is the most productive time of the year for quantity and quality of fish. This is trophy Brown trout time, trolling close to shore using, planer boards and stick baits and the action is non-stop.

  • May brings on the warmer weather and high jumping steelhead. The state record steelhead was caught in May. It also brings on the spring charged King Salmon.
  • June is a excellent time for a variety of fish being caught, the calmest lake conditions, and is also the start of the Walleye fishing on Lake Erie, the Walleye Capital of the world.
  • July is both the walleye pike prime season on Erie and trout and salmon on Ontario. This is the peak Steelhead and pre-spawn King’s month to go on a feeding frenzy.
  • August is the drag-screaming, tackle-busting peak King Salmon season. Come catch some of these heavy weight “Slamming Salmon”.

We are located in a quiet farm community a short drive from the New York State Thruway. This rich culture is located an hour’s drive from Niagara Falls, Buffalo, and Rochester. The mighty Niagara Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world, is an hour’s drive from our home. We have Bed and Breakfast Inns, farm markets, antique shops, cobblestone buildings, state parks, wildlife refuges, and an area filled with 1800’s charm.
