Things to Do In Hawaii – The Outdoor Women

Are you planning a vacation to the gorgeous state of Hawaii? There is so much to do and see that you might be feeling a bit lost on where to begin. Here are three types of activities you can explore while you’re there in order to get the most out of your vacation.

Dining

Hawaiian food has become famous over the past few years for such interesting dishes as poke and spam musubi. But there are plenty more available since Hawaiian cuisine is a gigantic melting-pot of international flavors. For example, you could try out Japanese fusion sushi Haleiwa HI or go to the famous shrimp shacks on the northern shore of Oahu. Other fantastic food traditions include kalua pork, saimin noodle soup, and haupia coconut dessert.

Culture

Hawaiian culture began with the Polynesian peoples who migrated there centuries ago.  This culture was influenced by waves of immigrants from Asia, Portugal and Puerto Rico, but still retains many of its native roots. Exploring the local customs of dances, religion and life might be a great way to spend part of your vacation on the islands. Interestingly, the word luau actually means the green part of the taro plant – not a party! The real name for a celebratory gathering in Hawaiian is ahaaina, which means ‘feast’. Now that would be a fun activity!

Nature

Perhaps the most famous parts of Hawaii are its natural features. The islands are volcanic, tropical, and lush with plant and animal life. You can take rides on everything from glass-walled submarines to airplanes to ziplines, as well as hike the mountainsides and snorkel the waves. Hawaii also has some of the best surfing in the world, if that suits your fancy.

Hopefully, these tips have given you some great ideas about what to do on your Hawaiian vacation. Get creative and enjoy it to the fullest!
